Diploma Thesis Presentation – Anastasios Nikolaos Raikidis
📅 Thursday 17 October 2024, | 🕤 11:00–12:00 | 📍 Physics Department
Congratulations to Anastasios Nikolaos Raikidis, a BSc student in the Physics department at the University of Crete, for successfully presentinghis undergraduate thesis titled:
“AI-informed acoustic monitoring of laser cleaning interventions.”
🔬 Thesis Overview – Background and Aim
Laser-assisted removal of unwanted crusts and altered coatings from heritage surfaces is a delicate and irreversible process.
This research explored the feasibility of real-time monitoring during laser ablation, aiming to predict critical thresholds where cleaning should be paused to safeguard the original material.
To achieve this, machine learning algorithms were trained to detect these thresholds based on acoustic waves intrinsically generated during the ablation process.
Nikola delivered an excellent presentation and made a significant contribution to this highly specialized and interdisciplinary field.
