Deeply saddened by the loss, on October 2, 2024, of our dearest friend, colleague, and collaborator, Austin Nevin, we can’t but turn to our fondest memories of him, spanning nearly 20 years, since he joined our group at IESL-FORTH and Heraklion, where he spent three years during his PhD studies. Austin was a constant source of inspiration, always with a smile, willing to exchange ideas and share knowledge, and ready to explore novel paths. A man of exceptional intellect and culture, a talented, open-minded scientist and an excellent teacher, with a vision for his field and passionate for his work, Austin is leaving a solid legacy for conservation science, and his numerous colleagues and students.
