A short training visit to the CALLOS open laboratory at the premises of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens (EACA), in the center of Athens, was organised for two students from the PhoHS team of IESL-FORTH, within the framework of the MoU between IESL–FORTH and EACA.

From 24 July to 6 August 2026, Anna Bitzioni (BSc thesis student, Physics, UoC) and Yannis Romero Burkhardt (summer intern, Physics, University of Freiburg) were introduced to the TriENA hybrid analytical instrument while visiting EACA’s unique laboratories and monument in Athens to get acquainted with the challenges that CH faces.

Their training focused on Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy using the TriENA hybrid instrument, developed at IESL-FORTH. Anna and Yannis compiled a detailed pigment database and studied the paint layers on selected objects bearing distinctive painted figures.

We warmly thank EACA for hosting this training visit and for the excellent collaboration. We look forward to continuing this exchange of knowledge and expertise and to organising similar training opportunities in the future.
